These experiences laid the groundwork for his eventual transition to a role where his impact could be felt on a broader scale: the executive director of Rochester Area Builders.
During his tenure at Rochester Area Builders, John worked in a predominantly female office, offering a unique perspective in an industry often perceived as male-dominated. Rochester Area Builders was chartered in 1953, and for its first 58 years, the organization had only three women presidents. However, in the last 13 years, there have been six women presidents, reflecting not only the industry’s growing diversity but also a deliberate effort to identify and support women capable of successfully leading the organization. John played a critical role in this transformation, placing these women in positions where they could excel and contribute to the organization’s legacy. “John made a great leader. He treated us with respect, always making sure we knew that family came first—and we respected him deeply for that. Together, they raised two extraordinary daughters, Mikayla and Carly. Carly , a dynamic leader, now serves as the director of New Horizon Academy, championing excellence in early childhood education. Her work impacts countless families, and her leadership shines as an example of hope and innovation in her field.
Mikayla, driven by compassion and determination, is pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse anesthetist. Her journey was inspired by a life-changing experience during her own heart surgery as a teenager, where a nurse anesthetist provided calm and assurance in a moment of vulnerability. Today, Mikayla is halfway through an intensive program at Mayo Clinic, where she continues to strive toward her goal. Their father takes immense pride in both daughters, admiring their resilience, achievements, and ability to leave a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

“Parenting is about raising independent, confident individuals who can take on the world,” John reflects. His philosophy is simple but profound: treat daughters with the same opportunities, expectations, and encouragement as sons.
