You can find them slow-walking from one end of the airport to the other in between phone-charging and snack breaks.
Actual Athletes
Actual athletes are easy to spot, with their weirdly shaped suitcases filled with rackets, balls, cleats, bats or other sporting equipment. Like the layered ladies, they sport comfortable, stretchy clothing, but unlike most layered ladies, they have the VO2 max of an 18-year-old. Actual athletes can be found pounding energy bars and water while they wait at their gates.
Frantic Families
Plane travel with kids is no joke, and while you may be frustrated by the crying baby across the aisle or the toddler kicking your seat, you can trust that you do not have it worse than these frantic families. If you think airport parents of young children look frazzled, it’s nothing compared to what’s going on inside those parents’ heads. Frantic families are easily spotted by the screaming, running children, the car seats, the strollers and the carry-ons packed with snacks, games, screens, extra shirts, extra pants, extra everything and anything else to survive the next several hours of their journey.
