As a woman running for public office, what legacy do you hope your candidacy leaves for the next generation of women and girls in our community

Personally, I have approached this campaign simply as a person who is qualified to serve, rather than defining myself by my gender. In many ways, that is the legacy I hope to leave—that a woman running for office is not an exception or a milestone, rather another capable candidate.

I hope young girls grow up seeing women in leadership so often that it obviates these questions. I tend to think of myself as someone willing to keep learning, adapting, and moving forward when opportunities arise.

If my candidacy leaves any lasting impression, I hope it is that leadership is defined by integrity, curiosity, hard work, and a commitment to serve. Being a woman is part of who I am, but it is not the measure of my leadership.

What do you hope another woman or young girl sees in you that gives her the courage to believe, “If she can do it, so can I”?

I hope she sees a reminder that leadership is not reserved for a certain kind of person and doesn’t require some special reason to pursue. That instead, showing up and deciding to do your best for the things that you care about is enough.
