Hi! My name is Sophia Marschall, and I am interning this summer at Rochester Women Magazine. (I could not be more excited!) I worked with the magazine while I was still in high school as part of a mentorship class, and it made me fall so in love with magazine production and writing that I asked to come back years later as an intern!
This blog is meant to serve as an inside look into the work I have been doing with the magazine and my journey throughout this internship, but I thought I would start with a brief introduction of myself.
I am now entering my third year at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, where I am majoring in journalism, minoring in English and earning a certificate in editing and publishing. This fall I am headed to Dublin, Ireland, to study abroad for the semester, and I have never been so excited and so nervous at the same time!
I grew up in Rochester and have lived there since elementary school, and though I live in Minneapolis full time while attending school, I will always consider Rochester my home.
In my free time I love to read (I am currently reading “The Picture of Dorian Gray” in preparation for my Ireland departure, and am always looking for recommendations, so please send them my way!). I also love to crochet, go to antique shops, explore Minneapolis and go to concerts. I am going to see Taylor Swift in a few weeks, and it is like a childhood dream come true!
So far at the magazine, I have learned SO much about the logistics and behind-the-scenes of magazine production–how to write assignments and edit articles and proofs, and I am about to start writing some articles of my own, which is really exciting.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to intern for Emily and the amazing team here at RWM, and I am so excited to dip my toe into all the different aspects of magazine production!
I will be posting a blog update each week, if you want to keep up with my journey!
Sophia
