Words to Say Instead of APOLOGIZING

01 Try saying “THANK YOU” Instead

“Sorry I am so behind on my project.”

“Thank you so much for your patience with this project. I will get it to you by Monday.”

“I’m sorry. I’m just sad today.”

“I’m having a hard day today. Thank you for being there for me.”

“I’m sorry I was late.”

“Thank you for waiting for me.”

02 Think of SOLUTIONS

“I’m so sorry I missed that.”

“Thank you for pointing that out to me.”

“Sorry, I’ll do better next time.”

“Can you give me some tips on how to improve?”

“I’m sorry this did not go as planned.”

“This did not go the way we expected, but I will think of a way to make it better.”

03 Ask a QUESTION

“Sorry to bother you.”

“Can you talk quickly?”

“Sorry you’re stressed right now.”

“Is there anything I can do to help you?”

“Sorry, I’m busy.”

“I am busy right now. Can we talk later?”

04 Practice EMPATHY

“I’m sorry that happened to you.”

“This must be very hard for you. I’m here if you need me.”

“I’m sorry for your loss.”

“I’m thinking of you during this time. Is there anything I can do to help?”

“I’m sorry.”

“I totally understand what you mean. Thank you for telling me.”
