With a change in the season, we often want a change in our wardrobe. That doesn’t mean you need to throw out your closet and go shopping for all new things. Here are some ways you can restyle clothing you already have for a fresh, new look!
Utilize the sandwich method
Sometimes we get stuck in the rut of always pairing the same pieces together. Try the “sandwich method” to mix and match some of your favorite pieces. The sandwich method is matching your top’s color with your shoe color, instead of wearing shoes that match your pants or wearing a top and bottom of the same color. This gives you a more balanced look.
This method doesn’t work with just colors either. You can incorporate it with textures, patterns and fits. By fits, I mean if you’re wearing a tight-fitting shirt, sandwich that with a loose, big hat and some wide-leg jeans.
Wear your shirt tucked in
By this, I mean to tuck it in stylishly! Ideas (depending on the outfit, some of these methods will look better than others):
- Tuck in only the front
- Tuck in only the back
- Tuck it in under your bra instead of pants
- Tuck in half of the front (this helps show off a cute belt in a new way)
Tie your shirt
There are so many ways you can spruce up a basic oversized tee or button-up just by tying it! Ideas:
- Front or back twist (try tucking that in too!)
- Front or back knot
- Secure the twist with a hair tie, then add a decorative scarf tied like a bow
- Try any of these methods on the side
Cuff your jeans
Now that you have some shirt ideas, let’s talk about pants. One easy way to restyle some jeans you already have is to fold them up at the bottom. Extra tip: Pair this with some cute booties or heels that show off your ankles.
Throw in a pop of color
If you’re like me, you tend to wear your neutrals with your other neutrals. Next time, try throwing on that colorful jacket from the back of your closet that you haven’t touched in years. Pair that with some matching earrings and boom! It’s like a whole new outfit and you didn’t even have to leave your house to find it!
