The challenges of career advancement and educational growth while raising a family is a remarkable journey. For many, pursuing higher education is driven by a desire to improve one’s career prospects, but for some, like myself, each milestone in my academic journey was inspired by the arrival of a new child. This experience shaped my perspective on career advancement and the value of education.
The Beginning: Certificate in Business
When I became a mother, I realized the importance of financial stability and career growth. With my first child, I embarked on my educational journey by earning a certificate in business. This foundational step provided me with essential skills in business operations, management and administration. It opened the door to more opportunities and laid the groundwork for future educational pursuits.
Building Momentum: AAS Degree
As my family grew, so did my aspirations. With the birth of my second child, I pursued an Associate of Applied Science (AAS), allowing me to explore my field and balance the responsibilities of motherhood. This degree expanded my knowledge and demonstrated my commitment to personal and professional growth. During that time, I saw the value of combining practical experience with academic learning.
Expanding Horizons: B.S Degree
When my third child arrived, I was ready to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. This was significant to my educational journey and required commitment and discipline. This degree allowed me to specialize further in my field and equipped me with advanced skills directly applicable to my career. This period was marked by a delicate balance between work, studies and raising a family, but the rewards were immense, as I saw my career begin to advance.
Pursuing Excellence: MBA
The birth of my fourth child coincided with my decision to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. It challenged me to think critically and strategically and provided me with a broader understanding of business operations, leadership and management. This degree was about advancing my career and setting an example for my children; I wanted them to see that with determination and hard work, anything is possible.
Reaching the Pinnacle: Ed.D. Degree
With the arrival of my fifth child, I felt it was time to pursue a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.). This degree represented the highest level of academic achievement and was a testament to my commitment to lifelong learning, allowing me to explore educational leadership, policy and administration at an advanced level. It also positioned me as an expert in my field, opening doors to new career opportunities.

As a mother of five, my educational and career journey has also been about setting an example for my children.
